The Central California Youth Wind Ensemble is proud to be a home to amazing musicians from the California's central valley and is honored to have hosted prestigious guest musicians from around the United States. 

 
 

Vanessa Lopez - Flute

Vanessa J. Lopez is currently a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles under the instruction of Denis Bouriakov. As a benefit of living in Los Angeles, she has studied with Diana Morgan, Sheridon Stokes, and David Shostac. She has also attended masterclasses by Jim Walker, Brad Garner, and Peter Sheridan. An active student at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music, Vanessa has been a member of the UCLA Wind Ensemble, UCLA Symphony, UCLA Philharmonia, and various chamber ensembles. As a Gluck Fellow, she is also part of UCLA’s Gluck Woodwind Quintet. Her time at UCLA has encouraged her to be proactive in the administration of the school by joining the Herb Alpert School of Music Student Council.

Prior to attending UCLA, she had the honor of winning the concerto competition of the Modesto Symphony Youth Orchestra in 2014 and played for the pit orchestra of the Yes Company.

She also remains the principal flutist of the Central California Youth Wind Ensemble.

Cody Marchetti - Tuba

Cody, principle Tuba of the Central California Youth Wind Ensemble, is a Music Education student at California State University: Stanislaus, where he will graduate in the Spring of 2017. Cody has been the low brass section leader in the CSU Stanislaus Wind Ensemble since he began his studies in 2013.

Between the summers of 2012 and 2014, Cody marched on the Euphonium line of the Blue Devils 'B' Drum and Bugle Corps as a soloist in 2013, and as section leader in 2014. During Cody's time, the Corps received two second place Open Class medals in 2012 & 2013, and received first place in 2014. 

 

Michael Flores - Percussion

Michael, the current Percussion section leader of the Central California Youth Wind Ensemble, is the Director of Bands at Atwater High School where 170 students are actively involved in 3 concert bands, marching band, jazz band, winter percussion and winter guard. Michael studied music at CSU Stanislaus and earned degrees in Music Education and Music Composition. During this time, he also performed with the 2009 Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps as well as the 2010 Sacramento Freelancers.

Michael has instructed and written for a number of high schools throughout the region, including Madera South High School, Turlock High School, Pitman High School, Merced High School, Beyer High School, and has acted as a consultant for James Logan High School.  In the independent realm, Michael has instructed the front ensembles of the Sacramento Mandarins (Sacramento, CA), Santa Clara Vanguard Winter Percussion (Santa Clara, CA) and the Blue Devils ‘B’ Corps (Concord, CA).

Currently, Mr. Flores is the front ensemble coordinator and arranger for Central Valley IMPACT Percussion (Modesto, CA), and is also on design and music staff for Merced High School and Beyer High School.

He currently serves on the board of Central Valley Guard and Percussion Circuit as the Secretary.
